What I’m Listening to While Painting

Music wise, this is one of those, “Separate the women from the girls” kind of moments.  What I choose to play on my boom box, changes my artwork.  The music will determine the mood…color… and my psychological reaction to the painting from then on.  I know exactly what I was listening to when I look at work I did years ago.  Kind of a cool phenomenon right?

So, here’s the current work in progress:

Painting In Progress

And here’s what I was listening to while working on different sections of the piece:

Painting With Music

If you can’t read the red marker hand writing, the music=

PJ Harvey- Is This Desire?  Lou Reed- Transformer  WNYC- (New Sounds)  Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion and Joanna Newsom- The Milk-Eyed Mender

To these artists and groups I say, “Thank You.”

I had an art teacher at I.U. demand that I didn’t listen to any music while I worked.  He wanted total focus and no distractions.

To him I say, “You dummyhead.  The music makes the art.”
